Brazilian Papayas: discover the flavor of tropical
Brazil.
How to choose
The papaya is ready to be consumed when it yields
to a light touch of the hands and when approximately
three
quarters of its surface is of an orange yellow
color, releasing a delicate and typical aroma.
Avoid papayas that are stained,
limp, exuding liquid or damaged.
For his own protection, the
consumer should buy products that are duly labeled with
brand seals
and indications
of origin that enable the type and origin of
the product to be identified, as well as its
exporters and importers.
Labels are a privileged way
of communicating the properties and origin of the product
to the
consumer.
If you buy pre-packaged fruit, read the instructions
carefully and the product’s sell-by date.
How to Handle
Consumers should handle the Brazilian
papaya with care, because it is a very delicate fruit,
sensitive to bangs
and knocks, which can stain it or make its
pulp go mushy, damaging the product’s quality.
Before eating the fruit, wash
it carefully in running water. If necessary, scrub the
surface of
the fruit
lightly with a soft sponge, but never use detergents
or bleaches.
Do not assume that pre-packaged
fruit is ready for immediate consumption. Always make sure
that the fruit has
been well washed. Otherwise, wash it again.
When transporting papayas, avoid placing objects
or products on top of them, because their
appearance and quality
may be damaged.
How to store and keep in good condition
If you buy fruit that is not entirely ripe, keep
in a suitable container at room temperature and
away from the sun until it has ripened completely. Then
eat it
or store it in the refrigerator.
When it is ripe, it should be consumed
on the day it was purchased, or kept in
the fruit compartment
of the refrigerator at a temperature ranging from
10 to 13°C
for one week.
Do not store papayas at a temperature lower
than 8°C,
because this interrupts their ripening
process and can damage the fruit.
